ART ISSUE is a new English and Chinese bilingual art magazine published in Beijing. Through in-depth features and focused reporting on a comprehensive range of issues pertinent to contemporary art in Asia, 艺术ISSUE aims to foster scholarly discussion among artists, scholars, critics, and collectors. At the same time, its superior design and lucid content provide access to a wide range of readers. Although our editorial focus will primarily be contemporary Asian art, we hope to use our focus as only a platform for coverage and assessment of contemporary art worldwide.
We aim to be a bridge for global communication by producing a magazine of high quality. As contemporary art in Asia develops at the rapid pace, the modernization process in Asia unwittingly adopts Western culture as the ideal standard by which to measure and judge its own culture. In order for Asia to extricate itself from this existing value system, it needs to construct a new Asian cultural value system. A high quality magazine keenly attuned to Asia's contemporary social, cultural, political and economic conditions provides the appropriate venue for the search and negotiation of this new value system. We strive to be this venue.
The strength of our content is indebted to our advisory board: Fan Di'an, Director of the National Art Museum of China; Kim Sun Jung, independent curator (Korea), Hasegawa Yuko, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, and Chia Chi Jason Wang, art critic (Taiwan). Through the support and critical input of these individuals and the efforts of our dedicated staff, we hope to improve issue by issue to become an important voice in international contemporary art.
