GRAZIA TODERI: Rosso Babele (Babel Red)

18 April - 19 May 2007

Grazia Toderi在伦敦的新作,展出内容有照片和录像。本次的主题是“红色巴别塔”作品所呈现的是人类城市里暮色中的点点新光,这些犹如地狱般的景色,是迷人而令人恐惧的。

f a projects are pleased to announce an exhibition of new video and photographic work by Grazia Toderi.

The new projection work Rosso Babele (Babel Red) will be exhibited in the main gallery. The work conjures an image fabricated from a multitude of superimposed and layered urban views, creating an eerie city landscape, an indistinct place, which consists of reddish matter that swarms with lights. Toderi calls this distinct colour of the work ‘Babel Red’, describing the tone that shines from the sodium vapour lamps that illuminate streets at night. The tone also prompts profound associations, creating the atmosphere of a contemporary Hades.

Central to the image is a tower which rises and falls continually, growing and decaying in a never-ending cycle. This is a modern Tower of Babel, which is intertwined with a multitude of indistinct cities, where increasingly the profound meaning of language fluctuates between growth, multiplication and destruction, between an excess of information and an impoverished message.

Rosso Babele (Babel Red) with it’s circling star formations and crashing comets furthers Grazia Toderi’s exploration of the interlinking of cosmic and terrestrial space seen previously in such works as Il Decollo, 1998 and Centro, 2004. In the other gallery spaces, new photographic work, and a series of drawings relating to the Rosso Babele (Babel Red) video work will be exhibited.

Grazia Toderi has exhibited extensively internationally, and is one of the leading artists of the Italian contemporary art scene. Upcoming solo exhibitions include Museo de Arte Contemporanea Serralves, Portugal and MACRO, Rome.
